The glamorous 5-star Peninsula Beijing is for me the one and only in Beijing. The Peninsula Beijing is situated in the heart of Beijing on Goldfish Lane in the Wangfujing district, an ultra-modern part of the city. This luxury hotel with its state of art technology in the entire building must be on your bucket-list: the famous Peninsula hospitality awaits you.

Since opening in 1989 and reopening after extensive renovation in 2016, The Peninsula Beijing shines in new splendor and has known how to combine timeless tradition with modern high-tech.

You can´t stay more venerable or stylish than at the Peninsula with its distinctive Chinese roof and Peninsula Twins, life-size white twin sculptures by Chinese artist Gao Xiao Wu. This reference to Chinese craftmanship as well as tradition also continues in the luxurious and extremely spacious rooms and suites, which reflect this Chinese heritage in a modern way. The smallest room category measures 60 square meters and delights guests with a separate living room and bedroom, a marble-tiled bathroom and ultimately a dressing room with Peninsula´s signature valet box for butler and shoe shine service as well as the morning newspaper. Thanks to the Peninsula Hotel´s groundbreaking in-room technology (see my February- as well as my April blog about the Peninsula Hong Kong and the Peninsula Shanghai), the rooms / suites in Beijing also have interactive tablets at bedside and desk. The LED touchscreens on the room walls can be used, among other things, to control the air conditioning or call the butler, and thanks to VOIP you can make free long-distance calls to your loved ones at home.

The Beijing Suite 1300 on the 13th floor with breathtaking views over the rooftops of Beijing to the mountains in the north pampers us on 165 exclusive square meters with for example, a separate dining room, a private study, a grandiose marble bathroom with integrated TV in the bathtub.

However, the absolute highlight of this suite is the private cinema room including private mini-bar, which surpasses anything seen so far.

The pool is unfortunately less attractive in Beijing than in Hong Kong or Shanghai, but the adjacent spa offers stunning massages. I recommend the two-hour Chinese Deep Tissue Fusion massage. Of course, you will also find a well – equipped fitness center.

As for the restaurants, you can choose between Huang Ting and Jing. The Peking Duck at Huang Ting, the Cantonese hotel restaurant is a dream. All Chinese dishes are served in a traditional “Hutong” ambience.

The Mediterranean gastronomy in Jing is served in the main dining area as well in different private dining rooms. In the lobby, your taste buds will enjoy Afternoon Tea, while your eyes will delight in the marble staircase: the white gemstone is the same one that adorned the Forbidden City six centuries ago.

Note: I tested other luxury hotels for you, dear readers, and only one won me over because of its absolutely privileged location. Although Tiananmen Square is also within walking distance of The Peninsula, the Nuo is just a step from the Forbidden City. In 1917, this 5-star hotel opened its doors under the name Grand Hotel de Pékin. Over 100 years later, it was known as Raffles, and since 1st September 2016 it bears the name of the luxury hotel brand Nuo. It is one of the oldest hotels in China. However, it is inundated with many tourists and conventions. Nevertheless, you can still feel the time-honored charm in the Heritage Suite 6313. I recommend booking this 80 square meter suite especially on the Chinese National Day, because you have an absolutely fantastic view of the grandiose parade on the unique Chang´an Avenue.
