Grand Resort Bad Ragaz

Luxury hotel, medical tourism and clinic stay in the 21st century

Just as the Park Hotel Vitznau on Lake Lucerne and the Cereneo Clinic (specializing in neurorehabilitation) are linked, the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz not only houses the two Grand Hotels, “Grand Hotel Quellenhof” and “Grand Hotel Hof Ragaz”,   and the five-star houses “Spa Suites” and “Hotel Palais Bad Ragaz” , but also a medical center for multifaceted health checkups, for sleep diagnostics and much more, and a clinic focusing on internal, musculoskeletal, neurological and oncological rehabilitation. Clinic guests can enjoy all the services and amenities of the five-star hotel or the five-star resort at both the Cereneo Clinic and the Clinic Bad Ragaz.

Five-star hotels, medical visits and rehabilitation clinics at the highest level are no longer opposites these days. On the contrary; in the German-speaking part of Switzerland, luxury hotels rich in tradition set an example for the health of every single person.

At the prestigious Grand Resort Bad Ragaz, guests enjoy peace, cordiality, friendliness and the best medical care throughout the resort. However, this hospitality can also be felt in Bad Ragaz. Everywhere one feels warmly welcomed. The community “Bad Ragaz” introduces itself to the internet visitors with “Being here is wonderful”. The small down-to-earth and open-minded village in Sarganserland is a refuge for body and soul, the Grand Resort is balm for body, soul and palate.

As for the rooms and suites at the Grand Resort, I have tested many categories over the past seven years at both the Grand Hotel Quellenhof and the Grand Hotel Hof Ragaz. All of them convinced me, so it is difficult to recommend one room or suite to you, dear readers. At the Grand Hotel Hof Ragaz, tradition and charm dominate the rooms and suites, which got a mini-facelift just three years ago. The cozy carpeted Comfort Room is the smallest category and is perfect for one or even two people. The Deluxe rooms with carpet or parquet floor are equally luxurious, but larger. The Grand Deluxe rooms with hardwood floors score with privacy and spacious bathrooms. The family rooms offer both adults and children everything their hearts desire. All rooms and suites have the latest technology, air conditioning, a marble bathroom, a balcony with a view of the varied Swiss mountain panorama.

The Grand Hotel Quellenhof captivates since its extensive conversion and renovation work with a new spirit, a fusion of tradition and lifestyle.

I was one of the first guests to attend the grand opening in July 2019. On the one hand, I miss the charm of the earlier times in the hotel lobby, in the blue room of the gourmet restaurant “Bel-Air” (now “Memories”) as well as in the hotel bar, on the other hand, I am thrilled by the new luxurious suites with their decorations of gold or silver. I am especially in love with the 80-square-meter suite with separate living room and bedroom, exclusive bathroom, spacious balconies facing the park and garden. Just take a look at the photos and judge for yourself.

As for the Spa suites in the Spa Tower as well as the rooms and suites in the Hotel Palais Bad Ragaz, the Palais exudes tradition and classicism, while modernity and purism characterize the Spa suites, where even the hotel’s own thermal water flows into the whirlpool tub, for example.

A renowned resort also includes an exclusive wellness area. At the Grand Resort, I must speak at this point of a versatile temple of wellness, a true oasis of well-being. Although for me the heart of every luxury hotel is the hotel pool, neither the sophisticated fitness area, nor the grandiose thermal spa with customized bathing sequences, relaxation rooms or the new family spa should go unmentioned. Dive with me into the historic and dignified Helenabad, enjoy a refreshment in the sports pool or swim your laps in the outdoor pool with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. You will feel like reborn after a swim. The true and soft power of the 36.5 degree body-warm Ragaz thermal water (the so-called Healing Water), which was discovered in 1242 by monks of the nearby Pfäfers monastery, has been piped from its source to Bad Ragaz for 177 years. The Blue Gold, as this magical water is called, will also delight your soul as well as your body. It is available for free use to all guests of the Grand Resort, which secured rights to the thermal water as early as 1868. In addition, the newly upgraded Tamina Therme, a public thermal spa, is accessible free of charge to hotel guests. Since July 2019, this spa offers a unique sauna village with the largest infusion sauna in Switzerland.

The aim of the Grand Resort is to become the culinary hotspot in southeastern Switzerland in the near future.  For this reason, two new refined restaurants – under the direction of Sven Wassmer – were opened in 2019: The “Memories” with a “fine dining” concept and the “verve by sven” with a “health and lifestyle” concept with first-class award-wining cuisine. The “Igniv” by Andreas Caminada, also a fine dining restaurant but with a different concept (sharing concept), was awarded 18 GaultMillau points in 2020, just like the “Memories”. GaultMillau Switzerland has voted the Grand Resort “Hotel of the year” for the third time in 2021. More recognition and distinction isn´t possible! Congratulations to the Grand Resort!

The quaint “Zollstube,” affectionately called “the little Swiss village pub,” serves regional delicacies from Heidiland and authentic Swiss treats, while the “Namun” is an excellent Asian fine-dining restaurant with a Far Eastern ambiance. I still remember the sushi master Ireneo Lara, who artfully presented his unique sushi creations in front of the astonished eyes of the guests with nimble fingers, controlled hand movements and pinpoint filleting of the fish. The Mediterranean cuisine in the “Olive d’Or” always delights my Italian palate. Finally, the golf restaurant “Gladys” completes the diverse dining scene at the Grand Resort.

The Grand Resort is “The Place to be” for the European, international as well as intercontinental stylish world traveler.

The region offers a wide range of walks, mountain hikes, sports activities, day trips to Chur and the surrounding area, such as to Lake Walen, and cultural events (the Bad RagARTz is an integral part of every art lover’s calendar).

Chur is just 20 minutes by car from Bad Ragaz. Switzerland’s oldest city lies picturesquely in the midst of a majestic mountain world, and the traffic-calmed old town with its 13th-century cathedral unfolds all its charm in the winding alleys with their cobbled paths. Fresh spring water flows from a few small fountains from spring to fall.

My two insider tips are the one-hour hike to the Old Bath Pfäfers along the wild and primeval Tamina and its mystical entrance to the narrow spring gorge, followed by a visit to the Old Bath Pfäfers, the only preserved baroque bath in Switzerland, which always opens its doors from late April until late October. The car-free village of Quinten with its picturesque location on Lake Walen is also always worth a boat trip.
