Travel report about Fiji

As announced on my homepage, I am taking you to Paradise this month! In my travel report about Fiji there will be no detailed information about the stopovers:  Hong Kong, Los Angeles, Dubai, Auckland, Sydney and Brisbane will be following at a later time.

I will be brief for once in this first blog, because I wrote a book about Fiji. In “The Blue Age of Fiji”, you will find over a hundred of photos and information about the really one and only luxury hotel along the coastline of Fiji´s main island Viti Levu and the really one and only private island in the northern part of Fiji. Moreover, I will let you know about where the best sights in Taveuni (Bouma National Heritage Park, International Date Line, Great White Wall), Suva (Government buildings, Fiji Museum, Municipal Market) and Nadi (Garden of the Sleeping Giant, Sri Siva Subramaniya Swami Temple, Local Market) are.

By clicking on “Books”, you will receive a few more interesting details on “The Blue Age of Fiji”. By clicking on my “Blog” in the German language, you can see more photos. I always try to publish different photos on my two blogs (German / English). This gives you an even better insight into the travel destination (hotels, flight and sightseeing).

The Blue Age of Fiji

In THE BLUE AGE OF FIJI, you will find over a hundred of photos and information about the really one and only luxury hotel along the coastline of Fiji´s main island Viti Levu and the really one and only private island in the northern part of Fiji.

The Blue Age of Fiji is a commissioned work in English. You can order it from me and you can buy it in some tourist offices or in some luxury hotels around the world.

Price: 20 Euro / 158 pages and 88 pages of color photos.

Nanuku Auberge Resort (https://www.aubergeresorts.com/nanuku) and Laucala Island (www.laucala.com) are spectacular home-away-from-home high-end resorts. The main difference between Nanuku and Laucala is that Nanuku is proud to have created a sacred and spiritual resort that offers you an authentic experience. The “Nanuku Family” shows its guests every hour of the day the Fijian indigenous culture, like the traditional warrior welcome ceremony, the fire walking show, the fire dance show, the torch lighting ceremony, the traditional dance show with a Fijian concert, Fijian one-man live music, the Kava ceremony as well as Lovo dinner. In the traditional handcraft centre, you will acquire a knowledge of traditional Fijian arts, like Masi prints on Tapa paper (Masi is the Fijian word for tapa or bark cloth and it is known as traditional Fijian art with its sharply defined, repetitive black, brown and white patterns). In the traditional cooking class, you will learn how to peel a coconut, scrape out its flesh and press it for milk, or how to cook prawns in bamboo shoots over an open fire. Finally, you will be invited to a Fijian Food Safari, where you get an understanding of the knowledge Fijian people have about the flora and their medicinal purposes that have been handed down from generation to generation. Laucala also reflects the charms of Fiji´s tradition, but it is more private and very exclusive!  For me, Laucala is not only the real jewel of the South Seas, but also unique and ultimate in the world.

When I visited Fiji with my husband for the first time in April 2015, I knew I would come back as soon as possible. Laucala Island really grabbed me. Of course, Fiji is far away from Europe, but the more often you fly, the shorter the route seems to get. But be aware of Fiji Airways, Irecommend Air New Zealand (www.airnewzealand.co.nz) to fly to Paradise!

On our first visit to Fiji, my husband and I flew from Frankfurt to Hong Kong with Lufthansa on First Class (www.lufthansa.com). This city is such an exhilarating and hypermodern city that I found it hard not to get caught up in the energy of this “City of Life”. We stayed at the fabulous The Peninsula Hongkong (www.peninsula.com). This colonial-style luxury hotel must be on your bucket list! Don´t miss it! It is the best in Hong Kong! More details in a later blog. On our return flight to Frankfurt, we travelled via Los Angeles, where we spent 3 nights in the prestigious The Peninsula Beverly Hills very close to the Rodeo Drive, one of the most fashionable places to shop and one of the most famous streets on the globe.

On our second visit to Fiji in April 2018, we took the plane (www.emirates.com) from Frankfurt to Dubai (one of my favorite places in the world) and from the cosmopolitan city of Dubai to Auckland.  We spent a wonderful time in the best First Class of the world: Emirates First Class is a dream and to shower above the clouds surpasses everything! From Auckland to Nadi, you can enjoy very short and pleasant fly with Air New Zealand. From Nadi to Laucala with Laucala Air, the private Airline from Laucala Island, you will land after a fifty-minute flight over the unique South Pacific with its dramatic scenery at Laucala Island´s private airport. Unfortunately, during this second stay at Laucala Island, the Meteorological Service of Fiji confirmed a cyclone. The Management let all the guests know that all buildings at Laucala are constructed according to Category 5 Cyclone Rating (the highest possible standard). Furthermore, all the private planes were brought to the various hangars and tied with sturdy ropes; all the yachts were taken to a safe bay and the captain, equipped with food and drink for several days, guarded his ships; all the outdoor furniture was either moored or brought inside. But the tropical, revolving storm Keni was finally downgraded to category 3. So, thanks to the Cyclone Keni, we were able to thoroughly enjoy the Spa and our Residence during this visit. We also spent a lot of time eating and chatting with other guests and the staff and we moved around the island on cobble stone roads with our private Golf buggy with four-sided rain cover.

On our third visit to Laucala Island at the end of October 2019, we travelled again with Emirates from Frankfurt via Dubai and we had a stopover in Brisbane. On the return flight to Frankfurt, we flew via Sydney and Dubai back to reality. Laucala Island is one of the last true untouched treasures with dense jungle on our vulnerable Earth, that really deserves the name PARADISE.

And now it is time to take off! The true paradise can be reached by plane from all parts of the world! It is Fiji-time (do not forget that Fiji Time can be significantly different from European Time, because in the Pacific, the clocks tick more slowly or are completely different) and this is your stress-free new time not only to find your happiness but also to let happiness find you! “Bau nanuma na nodatou Lasa” literally means “happy hours (beautiful moments) are forever”! Click on the left picture and you will see photos from Nanuku Auberge Resort.

Click on the right picture and you will see photos from Laucala Island, a true paradise, even with Cyclone Keni!

Comment: I tested all luxury hotels in Fiji. There is simply no really five star hotel that can compete with Laucala Island – not even Six Senses or Kokomo Private Island Resort. Be aware of the so-called luxury hotels on Denauru Island close to Nadi. Be aware of “The Fiji Orchid”, a Boutique Hotel near Nadi Airport.

If you want to spend a night or two in Suva, then I recommend the Queen Elizabeth Suite in the Grand Pacific Hotel (www.grandpacifichotel. com.fj). You will not be disappointed.
